Neko Neko - Trouble in the streets / Playin ya self

MFM009 – Trouble in the streets / Playin ya self is Neko Neko’s latest release on My First Moth records and is available from all good record shops and online today! Limited edition hand stamped, one sided 12″. Buy 12″

“Neko Neko takes time out from recording his debut album (due for release in 2012) to drop two very different reworks for your record box.

On “Trouble in the Streets” he expertly revisits a jazzy house groover (St Germain’s “Rose Rouge”), shifting it up a few gears further into proper dance floor territory with heavy drums, percussion and adding catchy-as-hell vocal chant (lifted from an early 80s Lijadu Sisters African LP?)!

On the flip Neko Neko’s MPC gets possessed by the spirit of circa 1993 boom bap as he remixes Jeru The Damaja’s anti-playa anthem. Honky-tonk pianos, horns and boom bap drums all make for a worthy update of this stone cold classic!”

Neko Neko - Pesticide 7 inch vinyl artwork - MFM007

Neko Neko is very happy to annouce that Manchester based label My first moth are releasing a 7″ vinyl single of Neko Neko’s tracks Pesticide and Plus & minus. The release date is Monday the 29th of November and will be available as a 7″ vinyl single and digital downloads, from record shops across the UK and as an import in Europe and USA.

Some kind words….

This guy is great! He really reminds me of some of RJD2′s early (and best) work but with less samples and more instruments. I hope he’s working on an album because i’d love to hear more music like this!
DJ Format

This new Neko Neko record could easily be used as a movie soundtrack. It also reminds me of an era of music based on heavy drums and melodic samples, the kind of record Mo’Wax would’ve loved to release back then.
DJ Lefto

Neko Neko lays down a wonderous cinematic trip that brings to mind Roy Budd’s wonderous compositions, the spiritual harp of Dorothy Ashby, wigged out drum patterns and that’s only the first track!!! This highly recommended 2 tracker sidesteps the usual ‘beats’ cliches and lays down a progressive take on musical beauty but more than manages to stay funky fresh too…More please!!!
